Process Demonstration & Review
To begin this class session, another overview of processes related to the current project will be demonstrated in class. An example project will developed as a way to overview project workflow. Although each project is different, there are some general concepts that can be applied to individual concepts.
Project Work Session
Our following time together is for working in class on the Countdown & Alphabet projects. The major goal is to create a short animated sequence that reinforces the relationship between movement and time. In 388, it is our first project and you may need to scale back your idea or concept in order to accomplish the project in the time given. We have more projects in the future - and perhaps you can address some ideas or processes you aren't able to do yet in those. It is easy at the beginning of motion graphics to get overwhelmed with what is possible and what you are able to do on a technical side. We will work on developing motion design skills throughout the semester. For the countdown project - focus on getting a simple countdown that is timed well and also has sound to help indicate the passage of time. Refining timing and pace is a very important aspect of motion design.
After our work session, we will spend time sharing project with each other. We will do this in order to get feedback, suggestions, or ideas related to what you are developing.
Resources
In Progress Discussion & Project Share
Next, we will spend some time sharing and talking about our work. Each student is expected to have some preliminary work (story boards, design boards, notes, references) as to what they have been planning to do. It is also expected that students have begun developing assets and experimenting with how their work will be animated. This in-progress discussion and project share is an opportunity to get feedback about your work at whatever point you are in development. The more work you have ready, then the more useful it will be to talk to others about your project. Consider how others see what you are doing and how you can incorporate their thoughts into your process. It is also an opportunity to share technical (how to) approaches to what you are learning about motion design and animation with each other.
Rendering from After Effects
From the AE Render Queue - Output Module settings, follow the image above as a guideline:
Otherwise, continue to use the Adobe Media Encoder with the Youtube HD Preset.
Your filename, as you save and prepare to submit, should following these conventions:
You may continue working up until the deadline next week, but you will need to make sure to give yourself some time for rendering. Consider working with another student from class to get feedabck, assistance with your work, or an informal critique.
You might also consider creating a free Vimeo Account. For video hosting, it is a site that serves a wide range of content creators and is a somewhat more professional setting than Youtube. If you create an account, you are highly encouraged to begin posting your videos and motion graphics animations there. You could also join the 388/488 Vimeo Group and share your videos there. This is not required, but it is a good opportunity to start developing a location for your time-based work online that can be shared with potential employers and provides some networking opportunities.
