Project 1 AS 488 MG Animation Studio II
Visual Countdown Update Project
A slate is related to the film and video production “clapper board” or a “countdown”. It provides audio and visual cues at the beginning of a sequence to identify what is coming next. You may use a visual countdown in 388/488 as a bumper before all of our animated projects, but it will not be required. Motion designers often use a visual countdown at the beginning of their demo reel to provide information about themselves while also demonstrating their ability to animate. To begin your second semester of Motion Graphics, you will work to update the visual identity for your work by creating a new visual countdown.
In addition to creating a new visual countdown, students in 488 will critique, share their work, and demonstrate some processes with students in 388.
Your project will include the following elements:
- Personal/unique aesthetic style (branding and identity)
- Artist/designer name, project title, duration, other relevant information (visual hierarchy)
- Central element is a visual countdown
- Basic property transformations for animation with keyframes
- Well-developed sense of timing and pace
- Development and use of image/shape/text graphics
- Purposeful and considered selection typefaces and colors
- Audio and sound effects match timing and pace of visuals
- Well-developed relationship between audio and video elements
