Line Variety Sketch

This assignment will challenge you to create a composition that explores line variety. Using only the Pen Tool, you will draw directly in Illustrator. Create a variety of lines through exploration of line type, size, scale, direction, angle, curve, thickness, and more. Pay attention to detail and consider how a variety of marks can be used to create a visually interesting composition. Use only black line on white ground. To complete your work, export a PNG file for submission.

Process:

  • New Illustrator Document: Letter Size (8 1/2 X 11)
  • Use of Pen Tool to create lines
    • Use only line
    • Explore line variety
    • Explore bezier curve, straight line, corner, angle, direction
    • Organize layers based on composition
  • Export as PNG
  • Submit assignment upon completion
    • Submit one PNG (Web Safe)
