Minimalist

This assignment will challenge you to create an illustrated version of a kind of food using a minimalist style. Use basic shapes, simplification, stylization, and the Shape Build Method. Pay attention to important visual qualities present in your chosen food. Sketch and create refined vector graphics that visualize the important visual qualities you identified. The final format should have a minimum of visual elements while still representing your chosen food in a poster style. To complete your work, hide your source image and then export a PNG file for submission.

Objectives:

  • Develop understanding of Shape Building using the Pathfinder Tool
  • Developl understanding of design principles like Dominance/Emphasis
  • Explore minimalist approach to design

Process:

  • Select a type of food you would like to illustrate
  • Create sketches that emphasize certain aspects of the food
  • New Illustrator Document: Letter Size (8 1/2 X 11)
  • Use Shape Tools like ellipse, rectangle, polygon, and Pathfinder Tool
  • Refine your shapes and illustrations to as few visual elements as necessary
    • Use only shapes
    • Use color
    • Create shapes that reflect source food
    • Organize layers based on composition
  • Export as PNG
  • Submit assignment upon completion
    • Submit one PNG (Web Safe)
