Importing Images
This assignment introduces the processes of importing images into Illustrator, including using images as templates for vector graphic development. Importing an image is the second step in a workflow that moves from sketching and drawing to digital imaging. For our coursework, it will be required to import scanned drawings for use as templates in creating vector graphics. For this assignment, you should have a scanned drawing that you can import. To complete your work, create a screenshot of your Illustrator workspace that shows the imported, placed image as a template layer then submit the screenshot.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate understanding of importing images as templates
Process:
- Locate your scanned drawing or copy to your assignment directory
- New Illustrator Document: Letter Size (8 1/2 X 11)
- File - > Place: select your scanned drawing
- Check "Template" from Place dialog box or set layer as template after placed
- Place drawing on artboard
- Save your work
- Screenshot your open Illustrator document with view of layers and template layer
- With Illustrator window active
- Command + Shift + 4, Spacebar
- Click on target window for screenshot (should indicate as yellow/highlighted)
- Screenshot is saved with date/timestamp on desktop
- Move screenshot to your assignment directory
- Rename your screenshot
- Submit assignment upon completion
- Submit one PNG
- "lastname_TechPlace.png"
