Project 4 Work

Some notes and strategies to begin working were introduced during the last class session. Processes related to developing this project will be presented and reviewed during the beginning of today's class. Although each project is different, there are some common considerations for moving between our graphics development work files and our animation space.

The project should be designed to fit standard mobile device screen sizes. As you reformat graphics for use in animation, you will need to have a clear sense of what the sizes will need to be. For things like backgrounds or "levels", this might mean that the work is scaled to be larger than what fits in the composition/screen at one time. For characters, this might mean exporting multiple PNGs to create an image sequence that is a lot like sprite sheet animation or else using one version and then modifying it for animation.

Project 4 incorporates elements of your previous work. The most important consideration at the beginning of the project is how to reformat your graphics for animation. This could be done in stages so that you don't have to redo a lot of work if something doesn't fit right. Once you have some content ready and imported into your animation project, then keyframing and blocking in actions is the next step. Remember to focus mostly on basic transformations like Scale, Rotation, Position, and Opacity.

Project Work Time and Individual Assistance

The rest of the class session is yours to begin and continue working on the project. The in-class work time available should be used for working on Project 4. We can work together in class on the project and you can get feedback or suggestions while you are working. You may need to continue your work outside of class in order get everything done. Although work sessions in class have been fairly flexible, you are expected to have something to work on during class (including Assignments).

During Class 27 there will be an in-progress critique and discussion. For that day, you will need to have some of your work ready to share with other students. Consider working towards the following:

  • Animation Preview: Title or Gameplay
  • Several seconds of animation ready for others to screen
  • Assets have been prepared and are being animated
  • Storyboard or sketches for how you will continue developing
