Over the course of the last few years I have worked at two distinct universities, one a state university with a large art program and the other an institution focused on Art & Design. At these schools I have had the opportunity to develop some courses that offer new perspectives while fitting within the existing curriculum. One of these courses was a summer workshop focused on Internet Art. It offered a historical framework as well as digital studio oriented projects. Another course, titled Experimental Animation, expanded the Animation area of the Time Based Media department by focusing alternate approaches to creating animated works. I have also taught several sections of Kinetic Drawing, an already established Foundations second semester drawing course. This course incorporates time and motion while taking the students from observational drawing to time-based media. Finally, I have been working with the Graphic Design area in one school to create a Web Design course open to all university students. In this course basic Web Design and internet literacy is taught with a focus on using tools and software that are readily available or accessible. Although I’ve taught this course for only one semester, there is a great deal of potential and room for growth in how it is implemented in any university as a way to promote a Visual Art Deparment’s integration within the larger academic community. Because of this work, I am confident that I can offer flexibilty and insight into the ever changing role of the Visual Arts.

As a praciticing artist, I work in what could be considered cross-disciplinary areas. My recent body of work includes drawing, animation, video, digital print, web-based communication, experimental literature, and instllation or visual display strategies. I am substantially familiar with digital imaging (Adobe Photoshop) and animation (Adobe AfterEffects) software with additional work in Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, and am confident I can develop a skill set with any software. There are benefits to a point of view that approaches software as a tool and that learning with one application suite can also open one up to the use of comparable applications. Like traditional art media, an artist can approach software as a tool that they can use to help them achieve their creative endeavors. Developing an understanding of how and why different tools are used can allow one to apply that knowledge to almost anything.

This application includes curriculum vitae, artist statement, teaching philosopy, samples of student work, samples of my own research, graduate transcripts, and reference contact information. I can be reached at the contact information listed on these documents and I thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
