Info Vis Project Work Session
Project 3 is due in one week. During the next class session we will have a final "In Progress Critique". At that time, it is expected that you will have all assets built and the majority of the animation completed. General guidelines for work flow are as follows:
- Research:
- general topic (neurotransmitter release)
- script, notes, illustrations, storyboard from client
- exisiting videos/animations, illustrations and other references
- Asset Development:
- based on your concept
- design boards (or storyboards)
- raster/vector, illustrated/graphic, minimal/detailed, etc
- asset composition VS design composition
- Animation Development:
- import all assets (visual and audio)
- markers or notes
- split audio for pauses
- keyframing and animating visual assets in sync with audio
- preview and playback animation
- refine animation timings
- keyframeing and animating transitions
- Exporting:
- Preset: Vimeo 1080p HD or Youtube 1080p HD
- Format: H264
- Audio & Video
- Exported/Playable animation for in progres critique
- Exported and Reviewed playable final version for deadline
- File Name: "lastname_infovis.mov" or "lastname_infovis.mp4"
Additional Audio and Sound Design
The required audio for this project is the voiceover. You can find the file linked on the Project 3 page.
Depending on where you are in project development, you may have time and be interested in moving your project to the next level through sound design. The narrated voiceover is most important, but it is possible to add a quiet or ambient soundtrack. It is also possible to add sound effects to reinforce some of the animation that is happening in the project. There is no specific way that you should do this work, but here are some things to consider.
- Music should be low in volume and not distract from narrated voiceover
- If music is used it should be as long, longer than, or looped to fill the composition
- If music is used, create a credit for the musician and track after the animation sequence, this can be over 5 seconds of black solid
- Example Music Source:
- Sound Effects can be added where needed
- Sound Effects should not overpower the narrated voiceover
- If sound effects are used, later steps should include creating a "Pre Composition" from those layers
- Example for Sound Effects:
Info Visualization Project Final Work Session
At this point of the project, you should have already developed graphics and illustrative elements. Your work should now be focused on animation, pace, and timing of the sequence. Individual Feedback and Assistance as Needed - if you have a question, need help, or want some additional feedback: ASK!
