Kinetic Typography Project

Generate a motion graphic visualization of a significant quote. The audio source for this project will be selected from an existing dialogue or monologue in a film, television program, or cut scene. Using primarily typographic characters, the focus of this project is to express and match the audio sample through animated visualization of language. Students will generate a transcript, create and then animate typographic layout designs timed to the audio source that they have selected. The project will require careful exploration of timing and pace of the audio delivery. Successful kinetic type projects will focus on the use of basic transformation properties like scale, rotation, position, and opacity as a way to creatively explore the duration and sequence of the selected quote. Examples presented in class will provide some guidance as to potential outcomes of the project.

Your Kinetic Typography Project will include the following elements:
• Selection of quote from film, television, or cut scene of approximately 30-60 seconds in length
• Purposeful and considered selection of typefaces and color (minimal color scheme of appx 3)
• Sequence primarily made up of typographic characters
• Basic property transformations for animation with keyframes
• Well-developed sense of timing and pace
• Visual representation of quote matches timing and pace of delivery, audio/visual sync
• Well-developed relationship between audio and video elements

Requirements

• Appx 30-60 seconds animated motion graphic video
• Use of dialogue/monologue audio sample of personal significance
• Visuals focused on the transformation and animation of typographic characters synced to audio
• Submitted as “lastname_kinetictype.mov” or “lastname_kinetictype.mp4”
• Optional – share to online Vimeo Group
