UN-commercial Project
The UN-commercial project is focused on motion graphics and animation used in advertising. Conceptually the work will be to parody, satirize, and/or critique an existing brand. Examples of this type of tactical media will be presented in class and the work will coincide with readings that relate to the topic of brand identity. You will work to research and examine the language and aesthetic of a specific brand and commercial in order to create your own subversive version.
Your project will include the following:
- selection of brand and commercial as source reference
- development of original content in variety of media: typeographic, graphic, illustration, design, video, and audio elements
- presentation of alternative concept to original brand through parody, satire, or critique
- sequence matches source brand aesthetic and style
- use of audio narration, voiceover, music, or sound
- well-developed relationship between audio and visual elements
Requirements
- variable duration animated motion graphic video:
- 30 second commercial spot
- OR
- 60 second commercial spot
- composite from different content sources (type, video, graphics, image, etc)
- sequence references a brand aesthetic and style with alternate message
- Submitted as “lastname_uncommercial.mov” or “lastname_uncommercial.mp4″ to instructor
- Optional Vimeo online posting shared with https://vimeo.com/groups/artstudio388
